Whether you are seeking to go deeper in your understanding of the Bible, ready for a new spiritual awakening, are a leader in the church, not connected to the church, already a part of a church, aren’t a Christian and know very little about the Bible, then this is for you. Everyone is welcome!
Discovery Bible Study (DBS) provides a structure that is simple, strategic, and life-transforming. Anyone can lead it and no special training is required. Participants take turns facilitating, all group members respond, and God does the rest!
These small-group gatherings, whether in person or online, are not dependent upon a building, trained leadership, a free and open society, or access to resources. This structure can work alongside the regular Sunday morning gathering or, when and where it is not possible to meet together in this manner, for whatever reason, DBS provides the option for gathering to continue on a smaller scale but with a large impact and even more involvement of members than would normally occur in regular large-group gatherings.
DBS is based on the belief that the “Word of God is alive and active” (Hebrews 4:12) and where “two or three are gathered in His name” (Matthew 18:20) God is present. The focus is on scripture and is not dependent upon one highly skilled leader. As everyone participates fully in the discussions, members gain confidence to invite others who may be seeking as well, and to form new groups. Engaging in deeper level conversations naturally creates community. Allowing the Spirit to guide the course of the conversation can lead to exciting and powerful learning and growth.
The goal of DBS is to multiply. Everyone in the group should take turns facilitating. Once the group members are comfortable, they can break off to start their own groups, and so on.
In order to provide opportunity for everyone to participate, it’s ideal to keep groups at a maximum of 8 participants and weekly meetings between 1 – 1.5 hours. Once the group reaches 8, consider replicating into two groups and inviting new members.
